Hope Squad Suicide Prevention’s
goals are to be Hope Squad Advisor to train students who have been identified by their peers as trustworthy peers. These students are trained to watch for at-risk students – provide friendship, identify warning signs, and seek help from adults.
Hope Squad’s in Lincoln:
Hope Squads were originally put in school systems. They are open to allowing them in community centers and other programs, as long as they pay for the trainings.
Lincoln High School, East High School, Bryan Behavioral School, & Youth Mayo Clinic are where Hope Squads are in Lincoln. It is our goal to collaborate and network with these entities.
Hope Squad Suicide Prevention’s
mission is to build & empower Hope Squad members to seek help and save a life. Hope Squad members are NOT taught to act as counselors!!!!!!!
Hope Squad members are educated on how to recognize signs of suicide contemplation, and how to properly and respectfully report this to an adult. Hope Squads are the eyes and ears of the school, after-school program, and/or student clubs they are participating in.
ODAASP will utilize Hope Squad curriculum based three-year integration program in partnership with QPR.
Students are nominated by their peers and trained by our Hope Squad Advisor/Advisors at Our Dream Achievers Art & Science Program (ODAASP).
The Hope Squad Suicide Prevention Student Action Board’s Curriculum Trainings are as follows:
1.) Hope Squad Fundamentals – (First Year Curriculum) – Begins with training each selected student QPR – Question: Ask the question; Persuade: Listen first; offer hope; & Refer: Get them to accept help
2.) Hope squad Essentials - (Second Year Curriculum) – Members increase their understanding about mental illness and gain confidence supporting and recognizing needs of their peers.
3.) Hope Squad Connections – (Third Year Curriculum) – Members now have the skills to train and mentor the new members and are given the opportunity to provide training for their families and villages/communities.
